The Program Specialist is responsible for direct service to homeless women who utilize the Norma Herr Women's Center. This position also conducts screening interviews when necessary. The Program Specialist supports shelter residents, responsible for serving meals, cleanliness and orderliness of the shelter and intervening to minimize disturbance between residents. Additionally, this position is responsible for the preparation and submittal of timely and accurate documentation.
Provides a safe, non-threatening and supportive environment designed to assist homeless individuals in accessing other shelter or appropriate community services for placement in more permanent housing.
Assists in the day-to-day operations of the Shelter facility to ensure the safety of participants, cleanliness of the facility and integrity of program(s) including general housekeeping duties and the distribution of snacks/meals.
Engages participants to participate in skill building activities including daily living skills such as personal hygiene and social behavior, and educates them about agency and/or community resources; advocates client needs and rights.
Documents participant progress including daily activities, client progress toward goals, and symptom monitoring ensuring compliance with pertinent regulations and standards. Maintains confidentiality of records and participant information.
Monitors client activity and overall condition and provides protective services, assistance and support.
Ensures prompt, professional service to homeless individuals needing shelter or drop-in services.
Develops and maintains professional relationships with other related service providers; establishes and maintains a social service directory for participant referrals.
This position is temporary until December 31st, 2017.
Flexible hours up to 40 hours per week.
Qualifications: High School diploma and related experience
